From her sister Juanita:
My Sister Anita was “One of a Kind” I was born in 1946 and she came along in 1949. We had moved to California by then. So the biggest part of my memories with her were there and moving back and forth to Arkansas. She babysat for the neighbors in California at an early age for her spending money (even though we both received a weekly allowance for doing chores). She wanted extra money for her clothes because she was a “clothes horse” LOL.
Daddy nicknamed her Speedy early in her life because she was in a dead run everywhere she went. I remember him always telling her to slow down!! Especially in the house, but she never did. We were taking her to get stitches all the time.
She was a loving and caring sister but did not have any qualms about setting you straight if she thought you needed it. Sometimes I thought she was MY OLDER SISTER. I always called us the 4 Musketeers and dreaded the day I lost one of them before I went on my journey, and it couldn’t be that way anymore.
Even though I didn’t live close by her as I got older, there was a short time when I did live close when we had our “first borns”. I will cherish the memories as they are forever burned in my mind as if they were yesterday. And even though I will and already do miss her, my prayer is that little sis, you are living the dream with our King Jesus right now and running up and down those streets of gold, Speedy!!!
Love you, your Older Sister, Juanita
From her baby sister:
My Sister, Anita Lou,
She was my friend, a costume maker, my personal beautician… cut, colored, rolled, fixed my hair. Pierced my ears, showed me how to shave my legs properly…. Taught me how to tell time on an old wind-up alarm clock. Bought me teapots and teacups to play tea party…. fished together…. We laughed together.
As women…. We shared our heartbreaks, our dreams, shopped together, drank coffee together, loved our families together, cried together and most importantly…. Laughed together. Flea Markets were our go to place… She gave my girls so many sweet memories to hold onto forever. I think that was a main goal in her life to make people feel good about themselves to encourage them, to make them laugh to focus on the good things rather than the bad. She was many things to many people. Friend, employee, mother, granny, sister, wife, gardener, daughter, beautician, softball team player, a woman of “Class”. Oh yeah, she ran over my bicycle!! Which I will never forget!
But, most of all she was a child of the King.
I will see her again one day soon. Until then Sissy, enjoy the flowers and all the beautiful sights of heaven, you deserve all the amazing things your eyes are beholding.
Your Baby Sister
