Abdon J Hebert
08-20-1928 to 07-26-2023
Dad was the middle child of 3 sons born to Wilfred and Lula Hebert. He was born on a farm without electricity in Leroy Louisiana. Harry was the oldest, then Dad, and then the baby Allen Ray. Dad would want me to point out here that he was the good-looking one of the bunch that kept his hair! Later in life because he never looked his age when someone would ask how old he was he would say “I am not old I just have a lot of mileage”.
Dad left home at the tender age of 15 to find work and help his parents who lost almost everything in the depression. He hitch hiked to Port Arthur Texas and landed a job with the Marine Barge and towing company working in the inter-coastal waterways and learning the trade of diesel mechanic. He did that for several years and always sent money home to help his family. Once he was old enough to join the army he enlisted and served In Germany during the Korean conflict. He served 4 years and returned home and continued to work for the corp of engineers at the locks in New Orleans. At age 34 he came a single father until he met the love of his life Betty Jo Roberts who became his wife and mother to me his daughter, in 1968. Mom always said she fell in love with me first and Dad took a little while! They lived in New Orleans a short time but moved to Lake Charles Louisiana right after getting together where Dad worked at several different places and even sold cars at one point. In 1976 he was offered an opportunity with Best Hughes as their Service manager for their oil field engineering department which included drilling, snubbing and hydraulic work over rigs, and as they say the rest is history. Dad built a name for himself and worked all over the world, Algeria, Libya, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Peru to name a few. While Dad traveled and worked he moved Mom and me to Palma de Mallorca Spain and he would commute back and forth working 2 weeks on and one week off. Those are some of our best memories.
Dad was also a baby whisperer, he loved babies. He would melt around them and if any of his grands were around they were never told “no”. He leaves behind for us to share his legacy a long list of family. His daughter Jodean (Keith) Peeples, his Step daughter Wanda Smith, his grand children, Tamara (John) Frederick, Nickie Judice, Jessica Peeples, Stephanie (Hunter) Goodwin, James Peeples, his Brother Allen (Suzanne) Hebert, and his nephews and great nieces, so many grand children and even great grand children that will forever be a part of him and his memory. We will all miss the “anyways” and the “let me tell you somethings” that would always leave us hanging on his every word and stories. Dad you are forever in our hearts and we will continue to live a good life and remember to be thankful for our reward that you have already achieved for a life well lived and well loved. Forever and always we love you.
