Anavurl Garrett Karber, 92 went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2025. She was born April 22, 1933, in Conway, AR to the late W. Eli and Iola Sams, with her twin sister, Luevern, and they didn’t spend much time apart since then.

Anavurl was a faithful member of the Martinville church of Christ. Anavurl played softball and basketball, she loved sports, and taught her entire family how to play. She coached until she was over 60 years old. The girls were recruited to be on the basketball team “The Red Heads” and went to play and came home a week later because they didn’t want to be away from their mom. Anavurl worked at CHDC for over 25 years, she enjoyed mowing the yard, playing cards, walking, and sitting on the porch... she would wave goodbye on the porch until you were out of sight. Anavurl loved all the music, her motto was “if you can’t sing well, sing louder”. She loved to play “Teddy Bear” for her grandkids and would laugh when they would get tired of hearing it.  Anavurl loved her family and spending time with them.

She is preceded by her parents; her husbands, Douglas Garrett, and Carl Karber; her son, Rue Garrett; her daughter, Dana Taylor; and siblings, Eldon Sams, Junior Sams, Arlon Sams, Marvin Sams, and Carolyn Gray.

Anavurl is survived by her children, Tracie (Mary) Garrett, Cindy (Craig) Ford, Kenneth Taylor, Sandi Garrett, and Jimmy (Karla) Karber; siblings, Luevern Glover, and Wayne Sams; Grandchildren, Melissa (Robert) Gragg, Katie Taylor, Megan (Nathan) Mattingly, Morgan Taylor, Chance (Skyler) Garrett, Maggie (Ivan) Robinson, Randi (Jimmy) Ford, Wade Ford, and Christopher (Megan) Karber; great grandchildren, Kenna Haley, Kinslee Holmes, Cade Woodard, Weston Mattingly, Crue Woodward, and Tripp Jumper; many nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, May 28th at 11:00 am, with a visitation an hour prior at 10:00 am at Wilcox Family Funeral Home. The burial will be at Martinville Cemetery.

A very special thanks to Mary McKay, Anavurl’s neighbors on Kaney Ridge Road, and Seeds of Love.
