Beryl Ray Smith, age 77, went home to be with the Lord February 28, 2015. He was born in Seminole, Oklahoma, February 6, 1938 to the late Oren E. and Bernice L. Smith. He believed that a life with God present each and every day, allowed him to persevere through the years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nora Hervol Smith, two sisters, Frances Marie Ramsey of Oklahoma City, and Nancy Carol Watson and her husband Leland Watson of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Dorothy Oneta Yeager and her husband Ratis Yeager of Greenbrier, Arkansas, and many precious nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Lora Ann Leatherman and her husband Gene Leatherman.
Beryl was a graduate of Seminole High School in May of 1956, and attended Seminole Junior College.
He served military time at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver Colorado, from November 23, 1961 to 1963. He then went to work in Oklahoma City at S. Riekes and Sons, and later at Fidelity National Bank, Awalt Wholesale Furniture Company, and Oklahoma Hardware Company. He worked as an accounts receivable clerk and credit/collection clerk at WKY Radio Station from 1978-1982. He also worked at Jones-Newby Company and the Daily Oklahoman. Beryl was also a Security Guard at Burns International Security Services for 10 years. He ran the Beryl Smith Income Taxes Services for 50 years. He retired in February, 1998.
He enjoyed travel, worldwide, as well as working puzzles. He lived to make others smile, especially children. He will surely be missed by family and friends alike.
Visitation will be held at Bishop-Crites Funeral home on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with graveside services at Springhill Cemetery.
