Gary W. Guffey, 62, passed away February 25, 2015 after a 15 year courageous fight with renal cell cancer.
Gary was born May 24, 1952 in Columbus, Ohio to George and Betty Guffey.
After graduating from Varnum High School in Seminole, Oklahoma, Gary served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1975, when he was honorably discharged. He then began a career in data and telecommunications that spanned more than 30 years working for such companies as RCA, Centel, Williams Communications and most recently BlackBox.
Gary was a faithful servant and witness for his Lord and Savior all his life as a Sunday School teacher, music director, youth director and choir member. He was a faithful member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church in Flowery Branch, Georgia, before moving to Arkansas to be closer to his family. Even as his health deteriorated he continued to tell others about Jesus.
Gary is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Guffey of Conway; two sons, Andy Guffey (Tammy) of Conway and Anthony Guffey (Jennifer) of Plano, TX; two precious grandsons, Bryson Guffey and Austin Guffey of Plano, TX, and his mother, Betty Guffey of Conway.
He is also survived by sisters-in-law Laferne Baker (John) of Gulfport, MS; Elaine McGowan (Kirk) of Bullard,TX; Carolyn Stewart (Phil) of Gainesville, GA; Janette Godfrey (Jim) of Lancaster, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Fresenius Dialysis Clinic nurses and Dr. Saleem of Gainesville, GA; Little Rock Dialysis Clinic and Dr. J. Kevin Heifner; Dr. Rhonda Gentry, Little Rock, AR; Conway Dialysis Clinic and Dr. Shaver, and Gentiva Hospice nurses and staff for their exceptional care and compassion for Gary.
Funeral services will be 3pm Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Bishop-Crites Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Fagala officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
