Gene Paul Morris, 90, of Greenbrier, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 27, 2026. He was the eldest of four children and was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 9, 1936, to the late Sydney and Luella Morris.
He played guard on the sponsored by Roberts Dairy football team at 12 and was instrumental in the beginning of league play in Omaha, Nebraska and he graduated from Omaha North High School in 1956 where he was in ROTC.
In September of 1982, Gene married the love of his life, Jean Allen. Together they built a life centered on love and family, raising four daughters.
Gene served his country honorably in the United States Navy, where he was stationed around the world. He worked as an Electrician’s Mate and achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (E-5). His service reflected his strong work ethic and commitment, qualities that continued throughout his life. He was a proud member of the Drum and Bugle Corps in Great Lakes, Illinois.
He began working in an electric shop in Omaha. He later worked for Union Pacific Railroad for many years in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1989, Gene moved to Arkansas, he worked in the engine shop, where he earned the nickname “Emperor of North America.” Many also knew him fondly as Gene “Jeep” Morris. He became a member of the Jenks Shop in North Little Rock and continued building lasting friendships.
Gene loved camping, spending time at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant, and treasured the many friends he thought of as family. He also had a special place in his heart for the dogs he cared for and loved throughout the years.
Gene will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his pride in service, and the many connections he made throughout his life. He will be missed by everyone he touched.
He is preceded in death by his grandchild, William Michael Schumacher; great grandchildren, Cody Dively, and Scott Michael Schumacher; siblings, Larry Morris and Glenn Morris.
Gene is survived by his children, Cheryl (Greg) Dively, Cathleen Broda, Charleen Schumacher, Connie Grant-Leanna; grandchildren, Shane (Kaila) Dively, Adam Dively, Onnie (Jess) Christensen, Alyssa Schumacher, Haley Grant, Eric Paul (Eric) Grant-Leanna, Kelly Grant-Leanna, Corie Grant-Leanna, Molly Grant-Leanna, Joel Grant-Leanna, Jordan Grant-Leanna; nine great grandchildren; sister, Jenell Morris; and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Wilcox Family Funeral Home with funeral following at 2:00pm with Brother Freddie Mark Wilcox officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Dively, Jim Ruple, Steve Snowden, Tony Branson, Shane Dively, Adam Dively, Eric Grant-Leanna, Joel Grant-Leanna, Jordan Grant-Leanna, Kelly Grant-Leanna, Brian Switzer, and Joe Reno.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
A final graveside service will be held at a Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska at a date to be announced.
