Jack Dean Smith, 85 of Conway, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 20, 2024. He was born July 18, 1938 in Maryville, MO to the late Pleasant Albert and Irene Laura Smith.

He often related how fun it was to ride his horse the six miles to school in Butler Holler, MO. He also told of spending many summers using a team of mules to cut and bale hay. Jack’s dad, P.A., loved dogs. At one time they had 14 dogs that kept strangers at bay. He graduated from Seligman High School in 1956 in Seligman, MO.

Jack joined the United States Navy in 1956 in Salt Lake City, UT. His 20 years in the Navy as an
Aviation Electronics Technician took him around the world. While in the service, he met his lovely bride, Meredith Alvina Ramsfield. He married her on November 27, 1961 in Seattle, WA. They had three children and were married for 62 years. He retired in 1976 from the Navy in New Orleans, LA. Jack moved his family to Conway, AR. to be near a college that offered the degree he wanted and to be closer to his Dad and a lake.

Jack completed Bachelor’s in Music Education with a minor in Math from UCA in 1982. His instrument of emphasis was classical guitar. Upon graduation he opened his own studio in the OTT building in downtown Conway. Over the years, the store grew and occupied multiple locations including the Smith Building and store fronts on Van Ronkle and Oak Streets.
