James Otis Sapp was called home on April 23, 2025, at the age of 86.
James was born to Otis Ferrell and Anna Lou Sapp on July 23, 1938, in Chickasaw, Alabama. He attended school in Chickasaw and graduated from Vigor High School in 1955. Upon graduation, he moved to Pine Bluff, AR to begin his career with International Paper where he worked for 42 years, retiring in 1997. While in Pine Bluff, he would meet and marry the love of his life, Mary Lou Sapp, on June 15, 1962. They would begin and raise their family in Pine Bluff before moving to Mayflower in 2009 to be near their children in their later years.
James enjoyed being around people and loved visiting with friends. He was a Mason, and later a Shriner where he was a member of the Nomad Motorcycle Corp for many years where he made lifelong friendships. He and Mary Lou also enjoyed camping with the Rock and Rebs Square Dancing group. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening in his free time. He loved to share the vegetables he grew with friends, church members, and political officials when he needed something. James also liked to buy trailers, fix them up and resale them. After each one, he would proclaim “that’s the last one”, when we all knew it wasn’t. James was a lifelong Alabama Crimson Tide fan and proudly wore his “Bama hat” everywhere he went.
James was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Morgan, and enjoyed his Church family.
James was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou Sapp.
He is survived by his children, Tracie (Benji) Post, and Jamey (Paige) Sapp; along with grandchildren, Matthew Post, and Michael (Ashley) Post; he is also survived by a brother, Ken (Diane) Dombroski.
A private memorial service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Lighthouse Pentecostal Church at 16718 MacArthur Drive, North Little Rock, AR 72118.
