Kathy was born on April 23, 1947, in Kennett, Missouri, to Herman and Ruby Christain, who preceded her in death. She was the eldest of three siblings, all of whom also preceded her in death: Larry Herman Christain, Brenda Winkle, and Sharon Deck. She was also preceded in death by her beloved great-niece and great-nephew, Finley and Sage.

Kathy’s greatest pride and joy was her daughter, Kristy, and son-in-law, Chris. She spoke of them often and would tell anyone who would listen that she “loved them madly.”She was deeply proud of her family and cherished her nephew Brian Deck and his wife, Karen, and their sons, Kevin Blake Deck and his wife, Haley, and Jacob Deck. Kevin Blake and Haley are the parents of Livvy and Silas, whom Kathy adored. She also loved her nephew Daniel Christain and his sons, Hayden and Owen.

Kathy had the heart of a servant and was always willing to help wherever she was needed. She dearly loved her Hornersville Baptist Church family and faithfully served the church in many capacities, including teaching children’s programs and leading the funeral meal committee. Her Christian faith guided her life and her service to others.Kathy devoted more than 30 years to teaching, most of them at Hughes Public Schools. She taught students in kindergarten, second grade, junior high, and high school, and was especially proud of helping countless children learn to read—a gift that shaped lives far beyond the classroom.

Along with her sisters, Kathy was affectionately known as one of the “Golden Girls,” leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and service. She will be deeply missed by her family, former students, church family, and the many friends whose lives she touched. Kristy would like to thank Life Touch Health, formerly known as Arkansas Hospice, and the Hight House for their kindness.

A memorial service will be held in Hornersville at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to your favorite charity in honor of Kathy or to the Hornersville Baptist Church.
