Larry “Boogie” Anthony Montz walked for the first time in 61 years to the arms of his Lord and Savior at 79 peacefully from his home on December 29, 2025, with his best friend of 48 years by his side. He had a huge heart filled with love for his family. His kindness to others was unmatched, and he had a fun loving personality that drew in everyone around him. To know Boogie was to love him. He lived his life to the fullest and never let any circumstances hold him back. His favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 40:31. He fought a long time to mount up on wings like eagles, to run and not grow weary, to walk and not grow faint. He was the strongest man around.
Boogie was born in New Orleans, La. May 7, 1946 to Helmuth “Mutt” Rene Montz and Mabel Lasseigne Montz. He attended Leon Godchaux High School then went to college at University of Louisiana Lafayette. Boogie served in the Navy before an accident changed the course of his life. Boogie had such a strong will to live and get the most out of life that he never let anything keep him from being able to achieve what he wanted. There was nothing he couldn’t do or figure out how to do. He started businesses, built and raced cars, owned and loved many classics, served his community as Communications Supervisor of the Louisiana State Police for 32 years, and finally retired to Arkansas for his greatest endeavor yet, being a grandfather to six!
In 1976 he met the love of his life Leila Lynn Levet. Upon first meeting they fell madly in love and would not be parted again. They soon married and started a legacy that will last for generations to come. They loved children and fostered several children over the next few years eventually having their forever daughter, Jessi Lynn Montz. Shortly afterwards, they became pregnant with their first son, Kody Anthony Montz. Their final son, Bronson Matthew Montz would make his grand entrance shortly after.
Boogie was incredibly skilled and was looked to by many for direction and guidance. While serving the Louisiana State Police he received numerous commendations and awards both locally and nationally from police departments, Governors, and many others. Boogie was loved for his fair and direct nature even when that meant something would be harder on himself. He made sure things were done the right way and valued integrity highly.
Boogie’s memory lives on in his wife and best friend of 48 years, Leila, his eldest son Kody Anthony and daughter-in-law Meredith, his grandsons Isaac Anthony, Ian Atlas-Turner, David Lee, and Kody Daniel; his youngest son Bronson Matthew and daughter-in-law Kayla, his grandson Kade Alexander, and granddaughter Isabella Ann. He loved his wife, kids, and grandkids so very much.
His strength is renewed and he is dancing in Heaven, having received his eternal rest after a lifetime of physical suffering without complaint. Soar on husband, Dad, PawPaw, Pops, and Father-in-Law.
A memorial service celebrating Boogie’s life will be held at OneChurch 1073 Front St. Conway, AR 72032 January 17 at 4:00.
