On Wednesday October 1, 2025, Leta Ruth Bowman, 90, of Conway was called home. She entered heaven on what would have been her 70th wedding anniversary. She was born in Widener, Arkansas on October 24, 1934 to Leta “Mae” & Wilber “Cook” Clark.
Ruth had the true definition of a servant’s heart. She fulfilled the roles of military and pastor’s wife to the fullest. She served alongside her husband in Honduras for 20 years on the mission field. While there she filled many roles. She cooked for countless mission teams, assisted in the hospital, drove the ambulance, and was “Dona Ruth” to countless locals. She not only raised her own children, but many children within the orphanage in Sula, Honduras. She thought of those children as her own. If you knew her, chances are she cooked a wonderful meal for you. She could always be found in the kitchen. She baked countless wedding cakes for friends and all her children. She served many leadership roles in the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary (WMA) and Girls Missionary Auxiliary (GMA). Her door was always open to anyone. She was always ready to lend an ear, make you a homemade meal, or tell you about Christ.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Mae & Wilber Clark and her husband, Bobby Eugene Bowman. Her brother Wilber Allen Clark, and her sisters Bobbie Jean (& Junior) Lewis and Elvira “Peat” (& Alvin) Pounders. Her daughter-in-law, Robin Leigh Bowman and granddaughter Emily Bowman. She was welcomed into heaven by her loving husband of 70 years and countless brothers and sisters of Christ.
Ruth is survived by her four children, Blenda (Dwight) Smith of Potts Camp, MS, Gary Bowman of Greenbrier, Lisa (David) Martin of Conway, and Tommy (Casey) Bowman of Greenbrier. She is survived by her late brother, Allen’s wife, Carolyn Clark. She leaves behind ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Numerous people, family or not, knew Ruth at “Gigi” and she loved them all as her own.
