Luevern Sams Hartwick Glover

Luevern Sams Hartwick Glover, 92, of Greenbrier, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on November 5, 2025. Born on April 22, 1933, to William Eli Sams and Mary Iola Freeman Sams in Martinville, Arkansas, she was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, and her life reflected her steadfast faith and devotion.

Luevern attended Wooster School until its closing and then continued her education in the Greenbrier School District. She and her twin sister, Anavurl, became well known across Arkansas as “The Sams Twins.” For one year they even played alongside their older sister Carolyn, drawing standing-room-only crowds with their remarkable basketball talent.

After her school years, Luevern built a long and successful career at Allied/Alltel as a telephone operator. Honored for 24 years of perfect attendance, she eventually retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service—a reflection of her strong work ethic and dependability.

Luevern’s gentle and kind soul touched everyone she knew, though at times her competitive spirit couldn’t help but show. Whether playing a ruthless game of cards with her siblings and friends or cheering for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at their games and school events, Luevern’s fierce will to win was always present.

Family meant everything to her, and she took great joy in their laughter and good company. Her last years were spent living with her beloved twin sister, Annie, sharing a bond that lasted a lifetime. After Annie’s passing, Luevern often spoke of how she couldn’t wait to see her again—and now, they are together once more.

Her love, warmth, and strength will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Elwin “Bunt” Hartwick and Willard Glover; her siblings, Eldon Sams, William E. Sams Jr., Arlon Sams, Marvin Sams, Carolyn Beene Gray, Rosalie Ryan, and Anavurl Garrett Karber; and her grandson, Shannon Williams.

Luevern is survived by her children, Debbie (Leroy) Williams, Mark Hartwick, and Mary Ann (John) McKay; her brother, Wayne Sams; her grandchildren, Shea (Rick) Blair, Lacey (Jason) McNeil, Beau Kirby, Tessa (Jesse) Mallet, and Mark Catlin Hartwick; her great-grandchildren, Madyson Mitchell and Andrew Blair; Gage, Irvin, and Canon Mallet; and McKayla and Reese Betts; one great-great-grandchild, Maddox Mitchell; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Wilcox Family Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Martinville Cemetery. Brother Tim Copeland and Brother Freddie Mark Wilcox will officiate.
