Martin Floyd Higley, 91, of Greenbrier, AR, went to be with the Lord on July 26th, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 1st, 1932, in Salmon, Idaho to his late parents, Ellis Higley and Helen (Stevens) Higley.
“Marty”, had many titles: husband, “Love”, father, grandfather, “Papa”, brother, friend, pilot, professor, pastor, therapist, lieutenant colonel, watch dog, and many more.
He had a love for many different things throughout his life, starting with a love for horses and mountains from growing up on a horse ranch in Idaho. He served in the Airforce as a pilot and was stationed all over the world. He traveled the world with his wife, Bernice. He had a passion for psychology and helping those with mental illness. He also encouraged furthering education and spent time as a professor at UCA after completing two masters degrees.
In his later years Marty would spend time telling his amazing stories from his life journeys.
He enjoyed sitting in the sunshine, going on cruises with family and friends, spending time with loved ones, eating traditional breakfast, drinking coffee, and watching planes fly over from his sunporch. He also loved going to have breakfast at Wagon Wheel, where he never met a stranger, making a point to talk with anyone who wore a military hat. He had a love for animals and loved to visit his grandkids’ pets. He loved to joke around and had the best sayings that will stick with us forever. If you spent any time talking to him, you were well aware of the love he had for his wife, Bernice. The love they shared was obvious to anyone who met them.
The most special trait Marty had was a love for the Lord. He loved to share the word of God with everyone and was a true example of being a light to shine for Him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis Higley and Helen Higley and step-daughter, Michele Beemiller.
Martin is survived by his loving wife Bernice, his children Kathy Nichols (Cecil), Marcia Appleby (Charley), and Cheryl Bryan; step-daughter, Melissa Turner (Steve); his grandchildren, Morgan McCormick, Anna Turner, Hayden McCormick (JB Wells), Logan McCormick, Jonathan Nichols (Haley), Mary Nichols, Lauren Tanksley (James), Kim Evans (DeWayne), Brandon Linzy (Jessica), and Sam Bryan and many great grandchildren.
