Marvin P. Matthews, 87, of Quitman, passed away Friday, April 18, 2025. He was born August 24, 1937, in Romance, AR, to the late Opie Benjamin Matthews and Ruby Ellen (Strickland) Matthews.
Marvin is also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Weda (May) Matthews, one brother, Carl Matthews, and one sister, Phillis McKay.
Left to cherish his memory is daughter, Vickie Alcorn (Robert) of Springfield, MO; son, Martie Matthews (Norma) of Quitman; grandson, Codie Matthews of Conway; brothers and sisters, Jean Gardner of Mt. Vernon, Virgie Walker of Heber Springs, Patsy Johnson of Greenbrier, John Matthews of Greers Ferry, James Matthews of Rose Bud, Mary Everett of Conway, Benny Matthews of Greers Ferry, and Danny Matthews of Heber Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marvin was a short-haul truck driver for most of his life. In retirement before his wife's death, he had an adventurous spirit and a love for travel. He was always eager to explore new places, with the western states and Alaska being some of his favorite trips.
The family would like to thank the compassionate palliative care staff at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Little Rock for their care and support during his final days.
At Marvin’s request, there will be a private burial held following cremation at Romance Cemetery, Romance, Arkansas.
