Mary Lou Sapp was called home on August 5, 2023 at the age of 82.

Mary Lou was born to Sadie and William “Tobe” Brafford on December 16, 1940 in Gray, Kentucky. Her family moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas with the Railroad in 1942 and she attended school there graduating from Pine Bluff High in 1959. She then attended Business School in Waxahachie, Texas before returning home and meeting her lifelong love and marrying James Sapp on June 15, 1962.

Mary Lou worked at Sunbeam Bakery, Pine Bluff School District, and International Paper before settling in at Simmons Bank where she made lifelong friends and retired after many years. She could always be found in the bank shaking a tambourine and singing Happy Birthday to anyone in the bank, including Tommy May, on their special day.

Mary Lou loved life and loved being with her friends and family. She especially loved holidays and loved to decorate especially at Christmas which was her favorite. She was a member of ABWA, Red Hats, Bunko Club, and Jefferson County Extensions Services Club. She also enjoyed the Sunshiner’s at First Assembly in Pine Bluff and her friends in the Shriner Motorcycle Corp for many years. Mary Lou enjoyed camping and especially the trips with the Rocking Rebs Square – dance club. She was always the life of the party, and her personality and enthusiasm could fill a room. She was always referred to as having a “spunky” personality and a positive outlook on life. She loved to read Cookbooks but would always make her cornbread and fried okra and potatoes which was requested by her kids and grandkids. She would always say that it didn’t turn out right as everyone around the table would eat it as fast as possible!

Mary Lou attended Immanuel Baptist and First Assembly in Pine Bluff where she was a greeter at both churches meeting everyone with a smile and a big welcome as they entered the doors. She never met a stranger and wanted to make sure everyone felt at home wherever they were. After moving to Mayflower in 2009 to be closer to her children, she attended Lighthouse Pentecostal Church where she enjoyed the fellowship of many new friends.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Jane. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Sapp and her children Tracie (Benji) Post and Jamey (Paige) Sapp, along with her grandchildren, Matthew Post and Michael (Ashley) Post. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Ken Dombroski (Dianne) and many cousins and special friends throughout the years.

A graveside service will be held at Mayflower Cemetery on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 10:00am, officiated by Brother. Terry Turner.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Shriners Children Hospital or the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Morgan, Arkansas.
