Matthew Wayne Speer, 46 of Tampa, Florida, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022. He was born August 30, 1975 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, to Charles Speer and Linda Matthews Speer. He was preceded in death by a baby brother.
Matt attended Oak Grove High School, Central Baptist College, and the University of Central Arkansas. He was very smart, but there was not a pretentious bone in his body. He was a private person, and enjoyed life most when it was simple and quiet, unless there was a cause to stand up for! Matt enjoyed reading, hiking, kayaking, and baseball, mainly the Arkansas Travelers. He was very disappointed when Ray Winder Field closed, but was excited to be one of the 1,000 fans who were able to purchase one of the stadium seats.
Matt had been living in Tampa, Florida for the last 13 years, and was instrumental in helping raise Isabell and take care of the home. He was planning to come to Arkansas in the next few weeks to be closer to family.
He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Brandon and Clint (Heidi) and his favorite niece and nephew, Lilian and Weston; and a host of extended family.
There will be a graveside service 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at Bethlehem Cemetery (Hwy 225, 5 miles west of Greenbrier), followed by a visitation/reception from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Family Life Center. The family requests attire be very casual.
In lieu of flowers donations can made to Paul and Silas Prison Ministries, 1 Talmage Dr., Little Rock, Arkansas 72204 or on facebook.
