Michael Carl Guthrie went home to be with the Lord on December 1st 2023 at the age of 66. He was born on August 13th 1957 in Wynne, Arkansas to Hudnall and Mabel Fugate Guthrie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margie Sullivan, and brother-in-law Danny Sullivan.

Mike grew up in Nashville, Arkansas and graduated as a “Scrapper” from Nashville Highschool in 1975. He attended a year of college, but decided to go a more technical route receiving certifications in pipe fitting, refrigeration, and as an electrician. He retired as refrigeration expert at Tysons Foods after 20 years. Mike and Carolyn raised chickens for a decade and a half. After selling the farm, they ventured out to build Morning View Retreat rental cabins in 2012 in Murfreesboro, AR. He and Carolyn enjoyed ministering to their many repeat guests. Mike and Carolyn sold the business in 2021 and moved to Conway to be close to their children and grandchildren. Mike was a follower of Christ and member of The Church at Meadowlake in Conway.

Mike was a mechanic and electrician, taught by his father, from an early age. They would rebuild cars together; including his favorite a ’67 Monte Carlo. Mike loved to garden and had several acres from which he would bless his local friends, family, and church members. Mike ministered to his friends and family not just through his words and actions, but specifically with his baking. He began baking after retirement, with sourdough bread, cookies, and pizza being his favorite. He was perhaps most known for his oatmeal cookies, which were enjoyed by his guests at the cabins. He loved to take rides with his favorite side-kick, his collie Izzy. Mike and Carolyn enjoyed their downtime on the banks of the Little Missouri, catching trout.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carolyn Guthrie of Conway; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Barry Zellner of Conway, daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Anthony O’Connor of Conway, AR (by way of Kinsale, Ireland), his grandchildren Hadley Moser, Lola O’Connor, and later Tate, Luke, and Emma Zellner. His sister and brother-in-law Kathy and David Taylor of Nashville, nieces and nephews.

Graveside will be at 12:00pm on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at McGintytown Cemetery with Cary Cox from The Church at Meadowlake officiating.
