Neal Edward Heaslet, age 54 of Guy, Arkansas, was called home by his Heavenly Father on October 2, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Conway, Arkansas on June 29, 1969 to Jerry Neal Heaslet and Linda Charline Sowell. He attended Conway High Schools and went on to earn his GED around 1989. He attended Petit Jean Vo Tech where he obtained his CDL. He was a truck driver for 34 years, and in March of 2018, he and his wife opened a small trucking company. Neal was passionate in his love of trucking, and he lived most of his life out on the road.
In addition to his love of trucking, Neal was also a very talented musician. At a young age, he taught himself to play the guitar and he began writing songs soon after. In the late 1980s, he became somewhat of a local celebrity playing and singing around bonfires, parties, and various venues in and around central Arkansas. He spent several years in Nashville, TN chasing his love of music, but he always found his way back to driving a truck. The songs he wrote covered a wide variety of topics, but the ones that he was the most proud of were about his Lord and Savior, or his daughters, Lindsay and Ali. In his last years, he was looking forward to joining the praise and worship team at Damascus Road Church, but his cancer battle got in the way.
With his larger-than-life personality, Neal never met a stranger, and he became friends with almost everyone he met. Everyone that has ever met Neal is bound to have a favorite song, memory, or story to share about him. His love for Jesus Christ, his strong political opinions, and his off-beat sense of humor always kept everyone guessing as to what Neal would say next and it landed him in Facebook jail many times. He loved life and he made the most of it everywhere he went. Even after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, Neal remained upbeat, kept his positive outlook, and his faith in Jesus remained strong. At the beginning of his battle, he placed his health into the hands of God, and on October 2nd, Neal’s prayers for complete healing were answered.
Neal is preceded in death by his grandparents, PG “Jack” and Helen R. Heaslet, Wayne Sowell, and Fern Sowell Brooks; mother, Linda Sowell; and beloved uncle, Wayne “Dub” Sowell Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wendy Earnhart; daughters, Lindsay (Josh) Limbaugh and Alison Heaslet both of Batesville, Arkansas; son, Hunter Deaver of Little Rock; stepchildren, Bronc and Jackalyn Barton; sister, Tressa Burnside; father, Jerry (Glenda) Heaslet; brothers, Scotty (Britany) Heaslet and David Heaslet all of Conway, Arkansas; grandchildren, Cade and Blake Limbaugh, Bentley Tatum; his beloved dogs Sugar and Gus; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Following a cremation, a memorial service and celebration of life will be held on October 21, 2023 at 6:00pm at Damascus Road Cowboy Church, 170 Tindall Ave, Damascus, Arkansas.
