Robert "Gates" Booth, 73, of Conway, AR, passed away on January 4, 2024. He was born on March 14, 1950, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Gates was a kind, patient, and loving man who had a genuine interest in others' lives. He had many lifelong friends and always made an effort to keep in touch with them. His friends and family looked forward to phone calls from him and always anticipated his “Okie-Doke” sign off. Gates was known for his forgiving nature and his unwavering love for his wife, kids, and grandkids. He was an avid entrepreneur and a hard worker who always put his family first. Gates had a great sense of humor and was a God-fearing man who loved Jesus Christ, his Savior. He and Diane worshipped together at New Life Church of Conway.
Gates is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Diane Dean Booth, and his children Benjamin Gates [Cassie] Booth, Andrew Earl [Laci] Booth, Michael Dean [Sarah] Booth, Samuel Adam [Krystal] Booth, Nathaniel Joseph [Morgan] Booth, and daughter Mollie Katherine Parks. He is also survived by his brother, Richard [Jane] Booth, and his sister, Phyllis [Jack] Carter. Gates was preceded in death by his father, Richard Earl Booth, his mother, Mollie Jane McElroy, and his sister, Catherine Booth Wilson. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
Gates graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1968 and went on to graduate from Ouachita Baptist University in 1972. He was the owner of a Custom Landscape and Sprinkler Company, and he also pursued numerous entrepreneurial ventures throughout his life.
Gates was known as “Poppy” and loved watching his grandkids' sporting events. He enjoyed snow skiing, hunting, and playing golf in his free time. He found joy in these hobbies and cherished the moments spent with his loved ones. He especially loved family dinners around his and Diane’s large dining table where he would always lead the blessing before meals.
A visitation to celebrate Gates' life will be held at the Wilcox Family Funeral Home in Greenbrier, Arkansas Monday, January 8th, 2024, at 5:00 p.m, and a graveside service at Crestlawn Cemetery at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 9th 2024. The funeral home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
