Ronnie Edward Barnett, 71, of Greenbrier, AR, went to be with Jesus our Lord on August 7, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 6, 1953 in Conway, AR to the late Thomas and Cletus (Cook) Barnett.
Ronnie was a carpenter and machinist by trade. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He spent many hours watching ball games and livestock shows. He was happily married to his high school sweetheart, Elsie, for 52 years.
He served our country through the Arkansas Army National Guard as a tank commander. He took great pride in operating his tank, Spittoon. He retired from the Guard after 24 years of service and was honored just last June with a Quilt of Valor.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Cletus, his brother, Andrew Butch Barnett, and his brother, Arthur Barnett. He is survived by his loving wife, Elsie Smith Barnett, his two sons, Matt (Kari) Barnett and Chris (Kristen) Barnett, his four grandchildren, Grady, Griffin, Garrin, and Tennyson Barnett, and his siblings Linda (Troy) Fulfer, Susan (Jimmy) Weatherley, and Jimmie (Kim) Barnett.
The family would like to thank Mary and Mike Hairston for their love and support, as well as the Gentiva Hospice company and Nurse Lindsey.
Ronnie’s service will be held on Monday, August 12 at 2:00 pm at Bono Baptist Church with burial following at Bethlehem Cemetery. The visitation will be at Wilcox Family Funeral Home on Sunday evening, August 11 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
