Shannon Joshua Vaughan of Greenbrier, AR went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 23, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born July 10, 1977 in Conway, AR to his parents, Mike and Kathy Vaughan.

Shannon held many titles: husband, father, brother, son, soldier, friend, and many, many more.

Upon graduating from Bigelow High School in 1996, Shannon enlisted in the Army. He had a passion for serving his country and did so proudly for 20 years and 12 days. (He would always make sure everyone knew about those extra 12 days).  During his service, he received numerous decorations and medals, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, and National Defense Service medal. Shannon served in Bosnia and Hercegovina as well as Iraq. Shannon honorably retired from the Army in 2016 as Sergeant First Class, E-7.

Upon retirement, Shannon continued to do what he loved by serving others in the Information Technology Group at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Shannon had a love for many things throughout his short life, most importantly spending time with family and friends.   He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, kayaking along the Buffalo River, spending time at his deer lease,  and most recently set the ambitious goal of hiking the entire Appalachian Trail next year.  Those that knew him knew he was a prankster and loved to make people laugh. His smile was infectious with a hint of mischief. He loved to joke around and had the funniest sayings that will stick with us forever.

Shannon’s true love was that for his family. His wife of 19 years, Brandie never wavered when it came to his dedication to serve the military. She was his guiding light when he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2011, caring for him every step of the way. Shannon had been in remission for 12 years.

Shannon is survived by his parents, Mike and Kathy Vaughan of Bigelow, his loving wife Brandie Vaughan, children Peyton Vaughan and Baylie Vaughan, his brother Toby Vaughan (wife Dee) of Siloam Springs, sister Beverly (husband Adam) of Benton, brother Joey (wife Melissa) of Guy , sister Katelynn (Conway), in-laws Linda and Kenneth Mattox of Greenbrier, brother-in-laws Brandon Riddels (Chelsea), Tristen Mattox, Gavin Mattox, and Chris Riddels (Amber), and a host of nieces and nephews as well as close friends who meant the world to him.

Shannon’s life was a beacon of dedication, love, and service. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering strength will continue to inspire us all. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit remains, a guiding light and a source of comfort. We find solace in knowing that he is now at peace, embraced by the eternal love of his Lord and Savior. Shannon’s presence will be deeply missed, but his love and laughter will echo in our hearts forever.
