William Clifton Hardwick, Jr.

William Clifton Hardwick, Jr. went to heaven on August 30, 2026. He was born on January 31, 1947 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to William Clifton Hardwick and Rosa Nell (Winstead) Hardwick. He was one of 7 siblings. As he grew older, he helped his father on their family-owned farm. He gave his life to Jesus Christ at the age of 10 at Vacation Bible School. He joined the Boy Scouts at age 11 and subsequently became an Eagle Scout. As an adult, he became an active Scout leader, which he enjoyed tremendously.

He is survived by his wife, Paulette L. Hardwick, their four sons, 11 grandkids, and three great grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters – Norma McKee (John), Donna Janes (Gil-deceased), and his younger brother, Roger Hardwick.

He graduated from high school in Iowa City, Iowa in 1964. He married Judy Roth that year, and they welcomed three children – 2 boys and a girl. David Scott Hardwick (Darla) was their firstborn child, Jennifer Lynn Hardwick (deceased at 30 days) and Clinton Bradley Hardwick (Carla).

He subsequently married Paulette Lewis Calhoun on October 29, 1988. She brought to the marriage three boys: Andrew N. Calhoun (Shannon), Joseph L. Calhoun (deceased in 1991), and Joshua P. Calhoun. They blended their two families and were happily married for 37 years.

They decided to move to Greenbrier in 1991 and commute to Little Rock for their jobs. Bill was a Research Associate in the Pharmacology Department at UAMS. While employed, he also earned a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from UALR, where he made the Chancellor’s List and graduated summa cum laude. He retired from UAMS in 2005 and began his golden years of taking care of his beloved house, traveling and playing with his grandkids.

He enjoyed outside work as an umpire and referee for football, basketball and softball. He also loved Oaklawn Park – watching the races and sometimes picking out a longshot! He loved Bull Shoals Lake – boating, camping, fishing, diving and swimming.

He will be cremated and his family will celebrate his life with a gathering at a later date.
